A Tour of Portland

After Anne arrived on Saturday afternoon, we took a tour around Portland.  First we went to Alberta Street, a regentrified area with eclectic and artsy stores.  One store had a long, long line out the door, so we went to investigate.  Salty Straw Ice Cream.  We figured it was just because it was a hot day, but Betsy knew that it was a well-known ice cream store with such offerings as Strawberry Basalmic and Green Fennel with Tomato.  Did not sound like something we would wait in line for.

After driving past Susan's and John's former home, we went to Mount Tabor to see what we could see.  A beautiful park with a lovely view, lots of steps to climb, and a nice respite from the heat made the trip worth it.

Then we drove to Troutdale for dinner on the river.  Troutdale is another quaint town outside of Portland with a number of small shops and restaurants.  We saw notices on the road that said the road would be closed on Sunday morning . . . but did we take notice?  I did, and Don did . . . but we weren't sure what it meant.  We would find out rather quickly!
