After docking in Lincoln City, we all headed down the beach. We met up with the group at a beach in Lincoln City where a number of seals reside. I noticed several things: the sand was as beautiful as that in Southern California, the winds blew much stronger than I had expected, the size of the driftwood astounded us, and the beach was deserted. I could not figure out why it was deserted, but it must be a function of wind, cold, and smaller population. Babs went with us to the ocean, but I do not think she was impressed.
We got lucky when we chose Tidal Raves as the restaurant in Newport. The view out the window was worth the price of admission, made better when we spotted two whales lazily making their way up the coast. One even flipped its tail to us. I am sure it was just saying hello.
After visiting the aquarium, we headed to the Yaquina Head Lighthouse. We knew we were too late to go in the lighthouse, but the grounds were still open, so we could still see it. While we were waiting at the pay station, a red car going in the opposite direction stopped next to our car. Kenneth and Melinda. They recognized our car, so we visited a few minutes.
Despite not being able to walk up to the top, the lighthouse was very impressive. Don's picture of it is a keeper, for sure. And just to make sure we were impressed, two whales showed up.
It was so cold and windy, the rest of the group wanted to go to the hot tub at the Lodge. We went to the RV and rested until dinner. The Salishan Lodge was lovely . . . Though finding their rooms posed quite the puzzle. We decided to eat in the Lounge at the Lodge, each of us having a light meal followed by a dessert. Again, marionberry cobbler was a hit!
We were pretty tired after the busy day, and it was not long before we got Babs settled down so we could all sleep.
