Pisco Sour
The national drink of Peru (newly named) is the Pisco Sour, and we had an opportunity to taste one and to see one made.
Pisco is a brandy made from grapes, traditional to Peru. We were served it as a shot, and Don said he really did not like drinking it that way.
In the 1960's. a man began serving Whiskey Sours in Peru, and someone had the idea to use Pisco, instead of Whiskey, hence the birth of the Pisco Sour.
At our hotel, they are made with 1 ounce of lime juice, 1 ounce of simple syrup, 3 ounces of Pisco, a little egg white, ice, and a good long shake. Then a drop of bitters is added, and voila, a Pisco Sour. They are quite tasty, but one must be careful not to drink too many!
