UNESCO Sites in Historic Lima

The historic area in Lima - the original downtown - was abandoned because of political instability. Buildings went into disrepair, and suddenly the downtown died. Unesco stepped in several years ago, and now much reconstruction is being done to restore many of the buildings. Those buildings with the UNESCO symbol have been purchased by a company, and UNESCO is helping to restore the facade of each one. Then the owner is tasked with repairing the interior and bringing commerce back to the area. They still have many projects to complete, but it is on its way and the work is quite impressive - daunting but impressive.
