Carcross, Tailgating, and Auroras

Carcross is a little town between Whitehorse and Skagway.  Its claim to fame is that it is where the golden spike was set in the railway from Skagway to Whitehorse.

We first visited the smallest desert in the world.  It isn't really a desert, but that is what it is called.  When the glaciers came through, they left sand that has blown into dunes.  Every year, more and more sand is deposited by the river, which then blows to the dunes.  Because it is not hot and dry, it is not officially a desert, but it certainly looked like one to us.

Then we went into Carcross where we visited the general store

and the bakery.  This is a cheddar scone, a black cherry/pecan scone, and wonderful cookies!

Carcross is a bus and train terminal, and when we arrived, five buses had arrived.  The general store was crowded, as was the bakery and the other shops.  By the time we left, however, the buses and train had left, leaving us and a very few other people in the town.  Another little berg that lives and dies by transportation.

We had to hurry to get to Teslin; we had a football game to catch.  The 'Cats were getting ready to take on North Dakota State, and we couldn't wait to see what our team would be like.  Don broke out some chips and salsa and we sat at the table to listen to the game.

Unfortunately, the game did not go as well as I had hoped, and by the end of the third quarter, I had gone to the restaurant to write my blogs.  I could not believe that we lost the game . . . what was this football season going to be like?  I couldn't imagine!

During the night Babs was doing her usual thing.  When I had to take her outside, I wondered whether the lights in the campground were going to interfere with any potential auroras.  I received my answer.
