Friday Nights at Frederick Park
Every Friday night during the spring, summer, and fall months, Hobart holds a "music in the park" event, complete with live bands and food trucks. Hobartians bring their blankets, sit on the ground, eat their food, and listen to two bands each night.
We missed the first singer - she played keyboard for Kylie Minoj - but the second band was called The Bad Dad Orchestra. As they began playing, several gravitated to the front where they danced the night away. Most of them were old people like us, but soon the younger crowd started dancing, too. The music was good, and although we only knew one song, it was our style of music.
Several things impressed us about the nights: the crowd was very calm and chill (could be due to the absoluetly perfect weather we encountered), the children were well behaved, people picked up their trash and actually used the trash containers, and the locals were very friendly and explained a lot to us. We were very surprised when one young woman walked up, threw her purse on the ground next to the wall, and went on to the dance floor to be with her friends. It was so wonderful to see such trust . . . I think that is just the way it is here, and I suspect in bigger cities less so . . . but we loved it. This night we got to see Hobart in action, and we loved it!
