Street Fair
When we arrived back at the pier in Hobart, the bus could find no place to let us out since their bi-weekly street fair was in full throttle. Food trucks selling Indonesian, Ethiopian, Chilean, and other foods, along with fresh oysters, beer, gin and wine lined the streets, and many from Hobart were sampling the goods. We had Chilean empanadas that were yummy, yummy, and we would have loved to try other kinds, but when traveling, we try not to go out on a limb and try items we are not certain would suit our digestive tracts!
Apparently Hobart has a number of distilleries, and since Gin only takes ten days to process, they have sprung up very rapidly. Whiskey is a staple of Hobart distilling, and one kind of whiskey sells for between $300 and $4000 dollars per bottle. And for as prevalent as beer and liquor is here, we did not see one case of drunkenness! Quite refreshing.
