The Wall - Part 2
One of the more novel and interesting pieces that I loved, not because it was beautiful but because it was so fascinating, was the wall.
And when you looked at the picture you thought to yourself, "Why Karen, that is just an ugly wall." You did think that, didn't you? Well, so did I until I read about it. In 2015, troops of oysters (did you know oysters were called troops?) were placed in the River Derwent as part of their heavy metal project. Oysters apparently are very efficient in extracting heavy metals from polluted areas, and so they were enlisted in an oyster farm near MONA to do just that. Then the oysters were harvested and encapsulated within the wall. Although it would take over a trillion oysters to clean up this particular site, the cooperation between art and science brought the concept together and proved that working together can create interesting solutions.
