We knew we were in for a treat at the rehearsal dinner because Patti Mann was in charge. But no amount of imagination on my part could prepare me for the evening of July 4.
The shuttles came to pick us up at 4:20 on Thursday. The ride was pretty normal until we took a left turn up the hill, on what appeared to be a one lane road up a very steep canyon. Two cars of normal size could get up the hill, but the shuttle buses were a little wide. One at a time, please.
We disembarked to see a beautiful house overlooking the cliffs and the ocean. Between us . . . very steep cliffs and a few houses below.
Welcoming us at the entrance was a table with beer and the signature "Beeler Punch." Around the corner, in addition to the bar and catering tables, we were treated to a spectacular view of the ocean.
Wonderful barbecue, s'mores for dessert, good friends, new acquaintances, and speeches at Laura's and Chris's expense made the evening go by too quickly. The fireworks over the ocean, occasionally obscured by the fog, gave an eerie and unique twist to the normal July 4 firework display. This evening highlighted what a terrific life Laura and Chris are going to have.
