Oh What a Night

Outdoor weddings can be risky, at least in Kansas.  But in California, not so much!  They have the occasional rained-out affair, the occasional breeze . . . but for Chris and Laura, we had perfection!

The wedding took place at the Maravilla Gardens, outside LA.  The weather had been hazy in the morning, but by the time we arrived at the site, the sun was shining brightly.  The seats for the guests were shaded, but the altar was not.  So while we were comfortable, the wedding party . . . well, not so much.  But they did not let it show.

We were entertained by a three-string quartet, as Grandma Betty, Mrs. Perloe, and Patti Mann were seated.  I cried when Patti and Chris walked down the aisle, but Patti did great.  Both mothers looked so happy and proud, and their dresses were perfect for the day.  Chris took his place at the altar with the priest, Maryetta Anschutz, and the quartet began playing.

The bridesmaids were escorted by the groomsmen.  Each had chosen her own style of dress, but somehow they had to figure out how three of them would be wearing champagne, three blush, and three ivory.  They did, and it was beautiful.  Their colorful flowers were accentuated by the muted tones of the dresses.  Absolutely stunning!

Because I could not see Laura and her proud dad as they walked down the aisle, I watched Chris, at least at first.  The genuine emotion he showed, the love he has for Laura, caused my own tears.  And to see Laura's smile light up the entire venue . . . we could not help but be totally pulled in to the ceremony.

The priest's homily was spot-on . . . entertaining but truly to the point of what a good marriage is.  She used an analogy from Alice in Wonderland, absolutely fitting to the life Chris and Laura are living.  We could not have been more impressed.  Vows were said, rings were exchanged, the Unity Candle was lit.

And then they were Mr. and Mrs. Mann.

Happy day!
