The day was unusual from the beginning. We awakened to record lows in Dodge City, though I do not actually know if they set a record. But it was in the high 50s when we crawled out of bed. Lovely, for sure.
We did not have to use the air conditioner in the Willie until we got to Clayton.
We saw no cattle nor antelope until we were on I-25. The plains are so dry, it is difficult for anything to survive on them.
As we approached Las Vegas, Don saw a dead bear just off the road. That is the first time we have ever seen that! We cannot imagine what that collision was like. Poor thing. It was probably trying to escape the fires.
We arrived in the driest state in the country, and the rain is coming down in sheets around Las Vegas. They need it so badly, we know it is good, but it does make us worry about the cabin. The good news is we think it may have doused the Jaroso fire. That would be a great outcome!
Once we arrived in Santa Fe, we went to The Shed with Carol and Annelle King. We were told we would have a forty minute wait, but within two minutes we were seated. Unheard of.
Now as we prepare to go to bed in the KOA campground outside of Santa Fe, it is almost cold. We are hoping we have enough blankets!
