Ninilchik

We have learned a lot about the Russians and their settlements in this part of Alaska.  Ninilchik is another of the Russian towns, settled by retired Russian fur traders who blended with the Dena'ina, or indigenous people.  The legacy of the Russian lifestyle still continues, and many of the cities have a Russian Orthodox Church.  We have not been to Ninilchik's yet, but we plan to do so tomorrow.

The RV park where we are staying is just outside of Ninilchik, at milepost 127.  Called the Scenic View RV Park, it is run by Brenda and Bob, two very friendly people.  They met us at the door by name, and we were served some delicious smoked sockeye salmon before we settled in.  This is a quiet friendly park, with nice spaces and not too crowded.

It also has a live webcam at its website:  www.scenicviewrv.com.  We called both Kenneth and Diana and waved to them over the webcam.  A very dorky but fun thing to do!

And the view.  There is a reason it is called the Scenic View!  Even when it is very cloudy like today and none of the mountains across the bay are visible, it is still gorgeous.  We hope to be able to see the peaks without the clouds!
