Turkey Red

Di is a foodie.  She and Melinda both use the internet to find interesting restaurants.  Today she looked for a good place to eat lunch in Palmer.  Wow, did she pick a goodie!

Turkey Red is named for the dry land wheat that is grown in Kansas.  How could we not like it?

When we walked in, we saw loaves of fresh bread on the shelf.  Whole wheat, sourdough, wheat with raisins, foccacia, ciabatta . . . It very much reminded me of a European market. There were also some beautiful desserts displayed.

The tables were covered with a green tablecloth, and then an autumn-colored smaller cloth covered that.  Green cloth napkins, black pottery plates, and clear glasses complemented the setting.

Some of the dishes were so unique.  My salad, made of greens, spiced butternut squash, feta cheese, sweetened walnuts, caramelized onions and portabello onions, tasted heavenly. Don had a turkey with a cream-cheese berry spread, and Di's sandwich was ham, bacon, cheese, and thinly sliced Fuji apples on a light foccacia.  It was spectacular.  We thought her sandwich was the best, but there were several others we did not try that might have rivaled it.

They also carried interesting teas, but their chai was the best I have ever had.  I think even I could drink it without milk and sugar!

If you are ever in Palmer, Alaska, we highly recommend Turkey Red.
