Hyder and The Bus Stop

We had read over and over about The Bus Stop being a must see/eat place in Hyder.  So we took the Jeep the forty miles or so to see what all of the fuss was about.

The drive to Hyder was as spectacular as the rest of our trip.  We passed the Bear Glacier

and waterfalls galore (there are 6 in this picture).

We saw bears at the National Park Viewing platform, there were adequate salmon in the river, and we toured the little town of Hyder.

Then we went to the Bus Stop.  But it was not what we expected.  We thought it was an honest-to-goodness bus depot.  Nope.  It is a kitchen in a bus with places to eat inside and out.  But we had heard it was good, so we ordered the fish and chips and waited.

The woman who owns the bus, Diana, does all the cooking herself, so she can only do two plates at a time.  She makes her own batter for the halibut and her own tartar sauce.  The batter was light and airy - and very yummy - and we loved the sauce.

The bathroom was also very special.  The commode was lavendar with a white lid.  Almost KSU appropriate.  We didn't tell Willie about it for fear he might be jealous!

Although it wasn't exactly what we expected, we are glad we ate there.  We thought it was the best fish and chips we have had, and its uniqueness will always be remembered.
