The Road Less Travelled

Leaving Jasper, Don decided to take a different route.  Rather than drive to Banff on the same road we had already seen, we turned east at Saskatchewan Junction and drove toward Red Deer.  It was a great choice!

The road was a nice two-lane road, but the best part about it was there was little to no traffic.  We just breezed along, enjoying the sights.

In addition to the beautiful Canadian Rockies, the route was peppered with lakes.  This one, Abraham Lake, was spectacular in its color and its size.  It is a reservoir, created when Bighorn Dam was built to generate power for Alberta and beyond.

We thought this picture would be a wonderful classroom addition to show students how mountains folded in layers.

And how about this stunning mountain!

The Canadian Rockies are full of mountains like these, and this drive accentuated their presence.  I do not understand why more people were not on this road.
