Return to Jasper

In mid-July, we came to Jasper and spent several days.  Arriving from a different direction gave us a view of this mountain - Mount Robson.

On Tuesday, we returned to exactly the same camp spot to spend the night.  This is the only repeat stay we will have, and we found the comparison between what it was like when we were here before and now to be interesting.

1.  The kinnickinnick is totally gone.  As a matter of fact, nearly all of the berries are gone.
2.  It was dark by 9:00 rather than still light at midnight.
3.  Downtown Jasper was pleasantly uncrowded.  No crazy drivers, no crowds of people, no hordes of RVs on the road.
4.  The campground had vacancies.
5.  It was warm - 85 - when we arrived, but it turned cold once the sun went down.  When we were here earlier, it was in the 70's and cool at night.  We expected to be colder, not warmer, this time around.
6.  The animals are beginning their preparations for winter.  The elk are beginning their rutting season, and the moose have already started.  We did not see any animals at all - maybe too warm, or maybe they are busy getting ready.
7.  One gas station had out of diesel, and we had to look hard to find some. That would not have happened in July.

Despite the differences, the stay in Whistlers Campground was just as pleasant!
