MONA Part 4

In the afternoon, we just wandered around. The building is meant to be confusing . . . and it was. We think we got to nearly all of the rooms, but if we had used the O app for every single project we saw, we would have been there for two days. David Walsh is the brains behind the project - we were told he is a mathematical genius who made his money gambling, and apparently he is not allowed in gambling houses any more. The majority of the art in the MONA collection is his, though the museum does have special exhibits, including one on Christian iconography that is showing now. So . . . let's talk about that exhibit. Upon entering, one finds herself in heaven:
In rooms surrounding "heaven," are various icons from a variety of countries, including Ethiopia, Greece, Israel, Italy, and Egypt. I appreciated many, but my favorite was a triptych done very intricately by a miniaturist. It was gorgeous, but of course, I did not get a picture - it was too dark. Another favorite exhibit was one that captures singled words from Australian headlines and then "shows" them in streams of falling water drops. I found it to be incredible . . .
Another one I loved was made of circular, metallic tags. When looking at it I had a hard time distinguishing what it was meant to be but when photographed, it was definitely obvious . . . I think Monet would be proud:
So many interesting exhibits, such creativity. The wordless library -
and so many more. Such a fascinating trip and so worth seeing!
