The Making of a Mural

We discovered that the area around Launceston is rife with murals – beautiful murals – and not just in Sheffield. Across from our hotel, we managed to watch and talk to two different muralists who were painting two different walls. I asked each of them how they painted such a large mural, and they each do it differently. The woman who painted the bird drew it on a small piece of paper, projected the picture on the wall, outlined it, and then painted it.
The other one, a thylacine (a now extinct animal) disappearing in the wild with a quoll emerging from the side, was painted in a whole different way. The artist created a squiggle-lined grid with symbols all over it, projected the squiggles on the wall, and used the squiggles as a grid for the picture.

They each painted their mural in a week, which was beyond our imagination, and as we left, one of the news stations was interviewing the artists. >
So interesting to watch it all come together.
