The Oregon Coast

Although I have seen pictures of the Oregon coast, none of them do it justice . . . just as most pictures of nature.  But a few things have surprised me.

1.  The beaches are gorgeous.  Little seaweed, fine-grained sand, lovely shells.

2.  Few people go to the beach.  It is probably a function of being in a lightly populated area where it is cooler than many places and the water is cold.

3.  There is a lot of driftwood on the beaches. And much of it is large, as in drift logs.  I have never seen so much wood come ashore.

See all the driftwood on the upper part of the beach.
4.  Dunes.  There are many dunes in the Florence area and on south.  Once they get far enough away from the shore, they begin to grow grasses, which makes the area look a little like Denmark.

5.  Rocks, rocks, and rocks.  Huge rocks, and we found out they protrude up to five miles from shore. I am betting there are many shipwrecks out there!

6.  Whales.  We saw several gray whales while driving around.  Magnificent creatures.  (I do have a whale picture, but it is on Don's camera . . . so it will have to wait!)

I loved the Oregon Coast!
