Bears!

We had arranged to take a bear flight on Tuesday morning at 8:00, but we had received a phone call from the company telling us that they weren't sure they would find bears.  They offered to take us anyway, and we decided it was the right thing to do.  So we loaded into a Cessna 206 (built in Wichita), and Don, the pilot and I left.

Our pilot, Ian, is 6'10" and it was entertaining watching him squeeze himself into the tiny plane.  But he was very competent, quiet, and reassuring.  Good thing, since I am not a real fan of small planes.

About 45 minutes later, we arrived at a beach, and after one fly-by, Ian decided to land.  Within about 25 minutes, we had seen our first bear.  By the time we left, we had seen 7 bears.  We got to see them play, clam, fish, fight . . . One walked about 20 yards from us (I thought closer, but Don says not), another came within a few feet of another group, and two cubs played and played.

This bear seems to have gone to the hair dresser to have her ears frosted!
Isn't this one handsome?
