Homer

Don and I had not planned to fish today since we wanted to see our friends, Beth and Ted Heuer.  Beth and I taught together for a year many, many moons ago, and we have kept track of each other through the years.  Six years ago we visited them, and we wanted to do so again - and today was the day.

Beth and Ted have a beautiful house that overlooks Kachemak Bay off the Cook Inlet, situated so that several glaciers are always in view.  Sandhill cranes regularly visit their front yard, they have a gorgeous garden that is weed-free, their flowers are spectacular, and their green house is filled with snap peas, green beans, peppers, and tomatoes.  The salad that Beth made was beyond delicious!!!

Ted is a woodworker of the finest sort.  His shop in their basement is filled with all kinds of implements and tools, and his creativity gives him all sorts of great ideas for projects.  To see some of his creations, click on tedswoodshop.com.  In the store he has numerous pictures of his items!

While we were hanging with the Heuers, the gals were out fishing.  They were "jonesing" for King Salmon, but the only Char caught one - and it was the very first fish caught!  She was most excited - and King Salmon meat is the best.  Everyone on the boat caught at least one fish, but Jeri actually caught two silver salmon.  Since she hadn't caught anything yet, it was doubly exciting that she caught two of them!  Needless to say, the salmon dinner tonight was pretty good - and fresh - and the root beer floats with Tillamook ice cream topped it off nicely!

Char's fish is still in the net . . . it was about a 20-pounder
