Chicken, Alaska - population 3 or 4

Today was our day to go to Chicken and get our postage stamps.  I have been ordering stamps from Robin for several years now . . . as soon as the Tererro post office quit selling stamps, I began ordering from Robin, and she is very grateful.  Post offices keep their doors open by generating stamp sales, but in a town of 3, it is hard to sell many stamps.  My order today was certainly a blessing, as I try to order for friends and relatives, too.

Don, Robin, Zeke and I are in front of the post office

We ate at the Chicken Café, purchased items from the stores, looked at the Dredge, and generally got a feel for the little town.  All of those who live there full-time are miners, and one man at the post office showed us his nuggets that he found today.  It was pretty cool to see!  We tried our hand at panning – we aren’t very good – but it was fun trying.

'twas a Miner, 49er . . .

No luck in this bucket!
Chicken is a unique little town – no plumbing, they generate their own electricity, no phone, no internet – but a profitable little place it is.  I admire Robin and her family for living there – her two daughters have or are working on their PhDd, and her husband is a miner who sells his gold on eBay.  Such an interesting way to sell gold!

Our trip to Chicken was great fun, and although we did not see any caribou or moose, we had a great day!

Yes these are the toilets, but they are clean and they certainly work!
