Philosophically Speaking

I am not a "predestination" kind of thinker, but I do believe that when things happen we can make them into good or bad experiences.  Such it was with the Willie's breakdown.

Last night, Doug and Jan, two friends of my aunt and uncle, invited us to dinner at their house. They had smoked a yummy ham, and with the help of Katie and Chris, made beans, potato salad, watermelon, and cantaloupe.  We sat in the cool of their deck, chatting, snacking, eating, and enjoying the cats and dogs.

Babs loved being able to move around the yard, though she was not real excited about the lab puppy, Decoy.  He was a little rambunctious for her.  While we were sitting there, a fox walked by the back shed.  It stopped and looked at us, then proceeded on its way.  Cool!

This morning, after taking a walk around McCall and stopping at Doug's and Jan's, we headed out to Uncle John's.  The area where he lives is forested, green and beautiful.  Hummingbirds show up at his feeders, he has herds of elk and deer in the winter, and foxes and raccoons frequent his back door.  Although it was a beautiful day, we stayed inside and visited with Uncle John and Aunt Margaret.  We had picked up a lovely lunch from Two Sisters - delicious and different sandwiches such as smoked turkey with cranberry chutney, ham and cheese with hot and spicy mustard, and roast beef with horseradish mayonnaise.

It is hard watching family members age, but Uncle John and Aunt Margaret are survivors.

They had a tough spell this spring, but they are doing well now.  We loved having time with them, and because of the Willie, we had much more than we planned.  It was well worth the break down.
