Jeep Excitement

Once we got the tow dolly, we loaded the Jeep and took off . . . for about 5 feet.

Then the brakes seized up and we were dragging the car.  We stopped, Don fiddled with a few things and we tried it again.  By this time we were on the busy highway . . . and the Jeep kept seizing up.  So slowly, with me standing on the edge of the road letting Don know when the brakes grabbed, we went the 50 feet or so until the next driveway.  Twenty minutes of cussing and discussing was not handling the problem, so I finally pulled out the owner's manual.

"Never use towing equipment that will restrict wheel movement.  Internal damage to the transfer case will occur.  It may be necessary to tow a 4WD vehicle with the front raised and the rear wheels on the ground.  If this is necessary the front propshaft must be removed to avoid damage to the transfer case."

Oh boy.  Although Don and Katie could probably have done that, it was not a sure thing.  So Katie headed to Willard's, the local RV shop, to see if they could help us, and within about 20 minutes, a man was at the RV, underneath, unhooking the propshaft.  $140 later, and we were off.

The rest of the trip to Glenallen was uneventful, but we did not make it to Valdez.  The first destination we have not accomplished.  I guess it gives us something to return to see!
