Talkeetna

Talkeetna is a little berg about 14 miles off the Parks Highway.  Don really wanted to see it since we look at a webcam from there (or so we thought . . . it really is in Anchorage, we found out!)

After we divided and conquered at the laundromat, Costco, WalMart, the RV Parts place, and Starbucks, we had enough provisions for a year.  And with everything packed and stowed, our convoy headed for lunch at the Noisy Goose in Palmer and then on to Talkeetna.

Because it was so rainy, we did not go to the town, but since Kenneth and Melinda had their own car, they went to see check out a bakery and other spots.  Within about ten minutes they came back and asked us to join them at the Wildflower Cafe.

Their menu included an Alaskan seafood bouillabaisse, a curried cauliflower soup, a seafood soup, a crab/asparagus quiche, and crab cakes . . . and that was just what we ordered.  You should have seen what we passed up!

Towards the end of the meal, a yellow cat came to visit.  He jumped up on the table next to us and made himself at home.  The waitress called him the mayor, and we learned later that he actually has been voted in as Mayor of Talkeetna.

We were doing just fine until we asked for more water.  Our waitress poured it for us, and three of us tasted it.  I asked her for some ice because the water was hot . . . and it didn't taste right.  That's when Don looked in his glass to see bits of food.  We figured out rather quickly that somehow we had gotten dishwater.  She apologized and brought us nice, cold water, but I have to tell you we were pretty grossed out.  It was definitely an unfortunate end to a nice dinner.

As we drove around Talkeetna, we saw plenty of other really quaint and fun places we would like to try.  And we would visit the Wildflower Cafe again, as the food was great!  Guess we will have to return to Talkeetna!
