Kansas Connections

While we were at the ball game on Friday, we took note of how few people were in the stands.  We sat down in an empty row behind a mass of empty seats.  Two people sat behind and to the right of us, several seats down, but that was it.

Sometime toward the end of the game, another man ventured in and began talking with the couple.  As we got up to leave, I asked him why the stands were so empty.  He mentioned that none of the teams playing were from there, but Friday night, when both teams were from Anchorage, the stands would be full.

As we talked, I mentioned that we were hoping to find some players from our school.  Upon finding out we were looking for WSU players and KSU guys, he, Jim Posey, said he went to WSU.  So did his wife.  And he went to law school at KU.  The woman then chimed in that she received her Masters degree from KU.  Her husband added that they lived in Topeka for nine years before moving to Anchorage.  She mentioned their daughter was a consultant with Deloitte.  Then she mentioned her son is getting his Masters at UT.  Too, too weird.

And to top it off, right before we began talking, Gene Stephenson's doppelgänger walked out of the stadium.  Who knows?  Maybe it was Gene.  With all of the other ironies of the day, it could have been!
