Lake Myvatn

The area around Lake Myvatn is described as a moonscape, and once we saw it, we understood why.  It is a volcanic crater filled with water . . . and the lava surrounding it has created shapes and forms that are truly other worldly.

In one area, we took a short walk, and we found an elf's cave, complete with clothing!

In another area, we found a natural bridge,

a castle,

and various ledges.

We also visited the site of the church that was in the direct path of an 1800's volcano, and just as the lava bore down on the church, it split and went on both sides of the church, sparing it.

What we think is the foundation of the church.

See the laval just outside the cemetery?

The rock wall is the church, with the lava behind it!
